Rain Couldn’t Dampen the Fun at Healthy Kids Day 2025!

Despite the gray skies and steady rain, the West Suburban YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day was full of energy, smiles, and activity as more than 300 people gathered for this annual celebration of youth wellness and enrichment. Held indoors on the basketball court at the Church Street Y, the event brought families together for an afternoon packed with fun, creativity, and connection.
Parents expressed their gratitude for having a fun event that transformed a rainy Saturday into something special. With music from DJ Keith setting the tone, the gym buzzed with excitement as children of all ages jumped on an inflatable obstacle course, played gaga ball, explored hands-on art and craft stations, and got their faces painted. Kids also loved picking out their own granola mix at the healthy snack station and were thrilled to receive free color-changing sunglasses—a fun keepsake that will be perfect for sunny days ahead.
The YMCA was proud to partner with an outstanding lineup of community organizations that provided engaging, educational, and interactive experiences. Families had the chance to:
- Kick soccer goals with coaches from New England Surf Soccer
- Meet Officer Justin Lau and his beloved K9 partner Officer Leo
- Explore robotics with the Newton Ligerbots, who brought along a crowd-favorite robot
- Try out musical instruments and learn about lessons from School of Rock
- Learn about skin health with MGH Dermatologists
- Discover free local programs from the Newton Free Library, Newton Social Services, and more
- Enjoy beautiful Henna designs from Henna Café
Events like Healthy Kids Day are a cornerstone of the Y’s commitment to nurturing the potential of every child. They provide an important reminder that play, learning, and movement don’t stop when school’s out—or when it rains.
Thank you to all the families, volunteers, and community partners who made this year's event a success. We can't wait to do it again next year—hopefully under sunny skies!
