Youth Development

Join us for one of our Preschool Open Houses to explore how our Center for Youth Development nurtures young minds! We’re opening our doors on Saturday, November 23 from 1-3 PM and Saturday, December 7 from 10 AM-12 PM for a chance to tour our vibrant learning spaces and meet with Heather Porder, our Preschool Director.

See how we create a nurturing and engaging environment that focuses on developing social, emotional, and cognitive skills through creative activities, structured play, music, and literacy. Our program emphasizes personalized attention with small class sizes, helping children build strong foundations for lifelong learning, confidence, and growth.

With flexible schedules available for 2, 3, or 5 days, we tailor our curriculum to meet the unique needs of every child. Visit our preschool website for more details about our enriching curriculum, daily schedules, and how we help each child thrive. We can’t wait to welcome you and your family!

New Preschool Spots Now Open! Unlock Your Child’s Potential at the West Suburban YMCA

Healthy child development begins early, and setting the right foundation can make all the difference in your child's educational journey. We’re excited to announce that new spots have been added to our Preschool Program! At the West Suburban YMCA, our preschool is designed to help children develop essential skills that will prepare them for lifelong learning and success.

A Values-Based Approach

We know that children thrive in environments where they feel safe, welcomed, and engaged. That’s why our caring teachers create a warm and nurturing atmosphere that supports each child’s social-emotional, cognitive, physical, and language development. By building a values-based community, we encourage young learners to develop confidence, empathy, and respect for others—critical skills that will serve them well throughout their lives.

Expanding Minds Through Engaging Activities

Each day in our preschool classroom is alive with engaging individual and group activities that spark curiosity, promote creativity, and encourage meaningful learning. Our program focuses on key developmental areas, including:

  • Literacy – Building vocabulary, reading comprehension, and foundational language skills.
  • Introductory Math – Developing an understanding of numbers, shapes, measurements, and other early math concepts.
  • Science and Social Studies – Fostering a sense of wonder about the world through exploration and discovery.
  • Art – Encouraging creativity and self-expression through various artistic mediums.

Every activity is thoughtfully designed to align with the Common Core Standards and Massachusetts State Guidelines for Early Learning, ensuring a strong academic foundation that meets the highest educational standards.

In addition, all preschoolers will enjoy weekly swim lessons, giving them the opportunity to develop water safety skills, build confidence, and enjoy physical activity in the Y’s pool.

Convenient Hours for Families

Our preschool is offered from 7:45 AM to 5:30 PM, with flexible scheduling options available for 2, 3, or 5 days per week. This schedule is designed to support working parents while giving children ample time to learn, play, and grow.
