Family Camp: A Weekend of Adventure, Community, and Unforgettable Memories
This past weekend, over 30 individuals experienced the perfect family getaway at our WSYMCA Family Camp. Set against a backdrop of ideal weather at Camp Frank A. Day, the three-day event was filled with activities, laughter, and a sense of community that left everyone wanting more. View the Facebook album, here.
The schedule offered a diverse array of outdoor adventures. Campers took full advantage of the stunning Lake Quacumquasit, engaging in swimming, snorkeling, canoeing, and paddleboarding. Those seeking a bit of friendly competition tried their hand at archery, while others enjoyed leisurely pontoon boat rides across the calm waters. In the evenings, the camp came alive with glowing campfires and the classic combination of s’mores and stories. Special activities, such as a camp carnival and a scavenger hunt, provided extra excitement for both kids and adults alike.
Beyond the activities, the camp provided three hearty meals each day, giving everyone the chance to gather and refuel. Memorable dishes included French toast for breakfast, a burger bar for lunch, and an indulgent treat of handmade churros for dessert after dinner. These shared meals created a sense of togetherness that extended beyond the dining hall.
In keeping with camp traditions, the daily ritual of raising and lowering the flags served as a meaningful moment of unity for all participants. The combination of tradition, outdoor fun, and communal dining made for a well-rounded experience that brought out smiles across the camp.
WSYMCA Family Camp is more than just a weekend retreat—it’s a chance to reconnect with loved ones, meet new friends, and immerse in the beauty of nature. As the weekend came to an end, campers departed with new memories, strengthened bonds, and a shared anticipation for next year’s return. Save the date to join us next year for Family Camp, August 14-17, 2025.
