A Blockbuster Success: Recapping YMCA’s Dance For A Cause

What a night! On Friday, March 1st, the Wells Ave YMCA was transformed into a dazzling dance floor for our Dance for a Cause dance event. Participants danced, laughed, and celebrated in a fun-filled, movie-themed mega group exercise class, all in support of the Livestrong at the YMCA wellness program for cancer survivors. Highlights of the Evening 

Dancing Under the Spotlight 

As the doors opened at 5:00 PM, attendees walked the red carpet dressed as their favorite characters from Disney, Bollywood, and Barbie movies, or in their swankiest dance attire. The energy was palpable as everyone eagerly anticipated the night ahead. 

• Disney Hits Zumba: Katie and Nerilys kicked off the evening with an exhilarating Disney-themed Zumba session. The crowd danced to beloved Disney hits, setting a high-energy tone for the night.
• Bollywood BollyX: Radha and Rajani brought the vibrant beats of Bollywood to the dance floor. Participants embraced the dynamic and joyful choreography, celebrating the spirit of Bollywood cinema.
• Livestrong Testimonial: During a brief intermission, we heard a powerful testimonial from a Livestrong participant, reminding everyone of the incredible impact of their support. 
• Barbie Movie Zumba: Meghan, Katherine, and Emi closed the dance sessions with a fun and empowering Zumba class inspired by the Barbie movie. The enthusiasm was contagious as everyone danced with joy and confidence. 

Celebrating with Awards and Prizes 

The night concluded with an exciting award presentation and raffle draw. Prizes were awarded in several categories, highlighting the creativity and dedication of our participants: 

• Best Fundraiser for Livestrong at the Y: Recognizing the top individual who raised the most funds for our Livestrong program. 
• Best Original Costume from a Disney Film: Applauding the most imaginative Disney-inspired outfit. 
• Best Original Costume from a Bollywood Film: Celebrating the best Bollywood-inspired costume. 
• Best Original Costume from the Barbie Movie: Honoring the standout Barbie-themed attire. 
• Best Original or Best Adapted Dance Party Costume not affiliated with a Movie: For those who brought their unique style and flair to the dance floor. 
• Best Endurance on the Dance Floor: Commending the participant who showed exceptional stamina and energy throughout the event. 

Fundraising and Community Impact 

Thanks to the incredible generosity and effort of our participants, we raised significant funds for the Livestrong at the YMCA program. This program is essential in providing cancer survivors with the support they need to reclaim their health and well-being. Your contributions ensure that we can continue offering these vital services to those who need them most.
