For Matthew Dinger, running the Boston Marathon is a meaningful personal goal and a way to give back to an organization that has been part of his life for decades.

Matt grew up in Newton Corner, where the West Suburban YMCA played an important role in his early years. Some of his first experiences with running were simple jogs around the track with his mom. Over time, those moments grew into a lasting interest in fitness and running that followed him through high school and beyond.

As a wrestler at Newton North High School, Matt spent many hours training at the Y, using the track and fitness spaces to build strength and endurance. The Y provided a consistent place to stay active, set goals, and develop healthy habits.

Now back in Newton Corner, Matt and his wife, Taryn, are raising their three young children, Ronan (4), Wyatt (2), and Rhea (3 months). Once again, the West Suburban YMCA is part of their family’s routine and community life.

Running the Boston Marathon has been a long-time goal for Matt. Being able to run in support of the West Suburban YMCA adds purpose to the experience and allows him to support a cause that matters to him and his family. Matt has set a fundraising goal of $8,500 for the West Suburban YMCA.

Why He Is Running

Funds raised through Matt’s marathon will support the Y’s financial assistance program. These donations help ensure that individuals and families in our community can participate in Y programs and services regardless of their financial situation. Support for this run helps make Y programs more accessible, from youth activities and swim lessons to wellness opportunities for adults and families. It helps the Y remain a place where people of all ages can connect, stay active, and feel supported.

Thank you for supporting Matthew’s run and the West Suburban YMCA. Your generosity helps strengthen our community and expand access to the programs and experiences that make a lasting difference.
