Get hooked on this popular sport

Pickleball is a sport played with wooden/plastic paddles and a small, plastic baseball similar to a Wiffle Ball. It's a cross between ping-pong and tennis - played on a badminton court with the net placed lower to the ground (approx. 34 inches). Pickleball can be played as a singles or doubles match. At our Y, we do drop in open play, where people play doubles matches. We have courts designated for beginners, intermediate, and more advanced players. We supply some balls and paddles. It is recommended that you please bring your own.

Please note, that we have SET pickleball hours. Any pickleball to be played during other “open gym” hours will be at the sole discretion of the Director of Athletics or the gym monitor on duty. Please check in with them. Thank you!

3 Courts available! Drop in and play on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30AM - 12:30PM (3 courts available), 12:30PM - 2:30PM (1-2 courts available) in the Church Street gymnasium.

New pickleball hours: Mondays & Fridays 12:00PM - 3:00PM (1-2 courts available).

Please note, there will be NO pickleball on holidays or school vacation weeks.

Drop in and play on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday's from 5:30AM - 7:00AM (3-6 NETS), 7:00am - 2:30PM (6 NETS). Wednesday's 5:30AM - 7:00AM (3-6 NETS), 7:00AM - 1:00PM (6 NETS) in the Wells Avenue gymnasium.

Saturday/Sunday's 7:00AM - 6:00PM (on 3 NETS)

OUTDOOR COURTS CLOSE TO WELLS AVENUE Y:

We are excited to announce that we are now offering pickleball open play on outdoor courts! Courts are located in close proximity to the Wells Ave Y, located at 100 Carlson Avenue, Newton, MA 02459 on UMAS Mt. Ida campus.

There are 6 nets, and we will have the same rotational system as we have for our indoor courts. There is a check-in desk located at the courts for your convenience. 

Play is weather depending.

• There is limited seating, so please bring your own chair (lawn chair, beach chair, etc.)
• Please remember to bring your own water and water bottle, as there are no water fountains up at the courts.
• For bathrooms, you will enter through the main entrance of the UMASS Mt. Ida recreation center/athletics facility, which is one building down from the courts.
